PROJECT CASE STUDY / PYTHON

DNA Sequence Analyzer

Harshit Mishra · Student project

The problem

A sequence is hard to interpret as an uninterrupted string. The project organises basic sequence properties and central-dogma operations into a command-line report.

Approach

Validate DNA, count bases, calculate GC/AT content and connect transcription with translation. The browser playground implements a smaller subset: composition, coding-strand transcription and a single-base mutation.

Worked example

Reproducible example based on the described operations; not a captured Python execution.

INPUT
ATGGCTTTTTAA

EXPECTED OUTPUT
Length: 12 bases
A: 3 C: 1 G: 2 T: 6
GC content: 25.00%
mRNA: AUGGCUUUUUAA

Key takeaway

Validation and explicit strand conventions matter before any output can be interpreted. GC content alone cannot identify a gene or determine sequence function.

Limitations

This is educational sequence analysis, not gene annotation or clinical interpretation. The browser demo does not translate proteins.
